Hot take: The Geek Squad at my local Best Buy in Austin actually helped me save $200

Went in last Saturday with a busted power supply on my home server. Everyone online says avoid them like the plague, but the guy at the counter spent 15 minutes walking me through diagnosing it. He didn't try to upsell me on a whole new machine, just pointed me to the right part on the shelf. Has anyone else had a good experience at a big box repair counter, or was this just a fluke?

Huh, maybe they actually want the business to survive for once.

Had a similar thing at a chain tire shop, sometimes the regular folks are just honest.

Wait, don't you mean the regular folks ARE honest... or is that what you were saying? Sorry, I'm reading it twice now and I think I misread it the first time. But yeah, I've had good luck at smaller shops too, they usually don't try to upsell you on stuff you don't need. Just gotta find the ones where the mechanics actually talk to you instead of the front desk person.
