Warning about that 'shortcut' through the industrial park on 5th

I've been cutting through the old industrial zone near the river for months to avoid the main bridge traffic. Yesterday, a city worker flagged me down and said the road is getting torn up next week for a full sewer replacement, with no through traffic for at least two months. My whole route is about to be a dead end. Has anyone else found a good way across the river from the east side that isn't the freeway?

Check out the pedestrian walkway on the old train trestle. It's a bit narrow but bikes are okay. Adds maybe ten minutes if you're walking.

The old Mill Road bridge is still open for now.

Actually, the Mill Road bridge closed last Tuesday for the long-term repair project. They put up the concrete barriers and everything. I drove by yesterday and the detour signs are all set up to route people over to the bypass. It's a bummer, but it's definitely not open anymore.
