Showerthought: People on the 7:15 train keep putting their bags on the empty seat next to them, even when the car is packed.

I've been riding the same route for eight years and I swear this 'seat saving' thing has gotten way worse since the pandemic, and it just makes the whole commute more tense for everyone trying to find a spot.

I used to put my backpack on the seat next to me, thinking it was just being smart. Seeing your post made me realize how selfish that looks when the train is full. Now I keep it on my lap or the floor, and it really does free up space. Why did it take a stranger on the internet to make me see I was part of the problem?

My buddy got a full on glare from an older lady last week for doing that. He moved his bag so fast and now he's a total convert, keeps it between his feet.

Yeah that "part of the problem" line hits. Read an article a while back about how small choices add up in public spaces. Like people who stop right inside a doorway to check their phone. Or spread out their shopping bags on a bench during rush hour. Makes everything harder for everyone else. Just a tiny bit of awareness makes things smoother.
