Found out after 6 years I was strapping my bailout bottle wrong

I've been clipping my bailout to the left D-ring since dive school, nobody ever said anything. Last week a saturation guy on the boat looked at my rig and just goes 'you use that thing when your primary dies, why you want it floating behind your shoulder?' He had me switch it to the chest strap and now I actually remember it's there. Anyone else have an instructor or old timer quietly fix something you'd been doing forever?

My buddy ran his for years with the hose routed under his arm instead of over the shoulder, swore it was fine until a DM showed him how fast it'd snag on his harness during a deploy. He was even more annoyed when he found out the manual had a whole page about routing and nobody had ever bothered to show him. Then he went back through his old dive logs and realized he'd been doing the same thing since his open water class. The kicker is his regular buddy had the same setup, so they'd both been validating each other's wrong way for a decade. Now he checks his gear against the manual every few months because clearly his memory of dive school is not to be trusted.
