Overheard two guys at my local shop arguing about whether Miller or McFarlane ruined Spider-Man
I was flipping through the dollar bin at Cosmic Comics in Austin last Saturday and these two dudes were going at it for like 20 minutes. One said Todd made the poses too extreme, the other said Frank made the eyes too small. Honestly I just thought it was funny how serious they took it. I grew up reading both and never really saw either as ruining anything. Anyone else ever get stuck listening to a debate like that at a shop?

Wait, isn't it more about who wrote the better stories than who drew the webbing? McFarlane's crawling poses were cool and Miller's shadows set the mood for me. Both guys brought something good, not ruined anything.

Hold on, hold on. Better stories? Did we read the same McFarlane run on Amazing Spider-Man? The dude couldn't write a coherent plot to save his life. He just threw a bunch of ugly, over-designed monsters on a page and called it a day. Miller's Daredevil run was actually written by him and had real plots and character development. McFarlane's whole thing was just flashy art that went viral for being "extreme" back then. Lumping their writing skills together is giving Todd way too much credit for something he barely did.
