My uncle told me to stop buying single issues and just wait for the trade paperbacks back in 2009, but I'm glad I didn't listen because I would have missed out on the whole local comic shop experience and those Wednesday conversations.
He said I was wasting money on floppies, but grabbing that first issue of 'The Walking Dead' off the rack at Graham Crackers Comics in Chicago and talking about it with the clerk is a memory I wouldn't trade for the convenience of a collected volume.

It's like how streaming killed the fun of renting a movie at the video store.

Totally true. The whole trip was part of the fun. Walking the aisles, reading the weird box art for movies you'd never actually rent. You had to commit to a choice, and sometimes you'd get stuck with a real stinker. Now you just scroll forever and end up watching nothing.

I get the memory part, but is it really that deep? It's just buying a comic book. I can see missing the chat with the clerk, but @jordan_webb, comparing it to video stores feels like a stretch. That was a whole family trip, this is a quick stop on a Wednesday. The trade paperback still has the same story in it.
