The day I stopped using a blade grinder for my morning cup
For years, I just used a cheap blade grinder I got at a yard sale. The switch happened after a friend in Seattle made me a pour-over with her Baratza Encore, and the difference in taste was like night and day. Has anyone else made a similar gear upgrade that actually mattered?

Man, I was a total blade grinder holdout until I tried my friend's burr grinder (shoutout to @garcia.tyler for finally convincing me).

Totally get that feeling. Upgrading from a blade grinder is a REAL game changer for flavor. It's wild how much of a difference the right gear makes.

My buddy was the same way, using this loud old blade grinder that made more dust than grounds. He finally got a basic burr grinder as a gift, and the first time he used it he just kept saying "oh wow" out loud. He said his cheap coffee suddenly tasted like the kind from a cafe, with actual fruity notes instead of just bitter. It was funny because he got mad about all the years of bad coffee he didn't know he was having.
