That $250 espresso machine I bought on impulse still haunts me
Last year I walked into a shop in Portland and walked out with a cheap espresso machine because the sales guy said it was a "prosumer level deal." I got it home and realized the steam wand was basically a toy that barely froths milk. The pressurized basket made everything taste burnt and sour at the SAME time which is honestly impressive. I spent another $80 on a better grinder trying to fix the shots and it still came out terrible. After maybe 20 tries over two weekends I gave up and sold it on Craigslist for 50 bucks. I should have just saved for a used Gaggia or stuck to my Aeropress. Has anyone else been burned by a hype machine they thought would save them money?

My buddy swore by his Breville for years but I watched him throw probably $400 in beans down the drain trying to dial it in. I ended up getting a used La Pavoni off Facebook Marketplace for $200 and honestly the learning curve was rough but once I got it figured out that thing pulls shots that rival any shop Ive been to. Sometimes the old manual stuff is way easier to fix than those computer-chip machines too.
