Dropped $150 on a fancy burr grinder and it ruined my morning routine

I bought this expensive burr grinder online after reading all the hype about even grounds. First use, it jammed up on some medium roast beans and made a grinding noise like a dying blender. I spent 20 minutes disassembling it to clear the clog while my coffee got cold. Now I'm stuck using my old blade grinder again and wondering if I just got a dud. Has anyone else had a grinder fail on them right out of the box?

Shanem is acting like it nearly burned your house down or something. Sounds like your grinder just had a bad first date with those beans, not a total meltdown. Pretty sure most burr grinders need the beans to be like a specific size or roast level to not choke up. Could be you just need to break it in or toss a couple of oily beans in there first.

At LEAST it didn't start a fire, right?

Nah, oily beans would actually make things WORSE honestly. They gunk up the burrs way faster and that's usually what makes cheap grinders seize up. A dry light roast is actually safer for breaking it in.
