Used to think recycling everything was the best I could do. Now I'm realizing it's barely a bandaid.

Threw stuff in the blue bin for years without thinking about it. Then I started tracking my actual household waste for a month last summer. Over 60% of what I was "recycling" ended up contaminated by greasy pizza boxes or those little plastic lids that fall off. Plus I found out my local facility in Albany ships a lot of mixed plastics to a landfill anyway. Felt like a punch in the gut. Has anyone else hit that point where you realize the system's more broken than you thought?

Started calling recyclers directly and found out only #1 and #2 plastics actually get processed in my area.

Albany's actually got a decent MRF but yeah, the plastic issue is real.
