My neighbor in Phoenix kept telling me to shade my AC unit, and my July bill proved him wrong
He swore up and down that putting a shade screen over the condenser would cut my bill by 20 bucks a month. I finally did it in June and my next bill came in 14 dollars higher than the same month last year. Turns out blocking airflow around the unit makes it work harder, not less. I pulled the screen off and planted two small shrubs about 3 feet away instead, which seems to be doing okay so far. Has anyone found a shade setup around a condenser that actually saves money and doesn't smother the thing?
