Appreciation post: My apartment complex finally fixed the bike rack after 8 months

I've been locking my bike to a lamppost since March because the rack in my building was completely rusted out. Put in three maintenance requests and got nothing but canned replies. Then last Tuesday I walked outside and saw a brand new rack installed with concrete anchors and everything. It sounds small but not having to worry about my bike getting knocked over or stolen has been a huge mental load off. Now I'm actually riding to the grocery store more often instead of driving. Has anyone else had a random building maintenance win that helped them cut down on car trips?

Wait, they actually fixed it? Like for real, after eight months of nothing? I seriously would've bet money you'd be chaining your bike to that lamppost until you moved out. That's wild man. I think property managers just bank on people giving up and not wanting to deal with it anymore, so seeing one actually follow through feels like spotting a unicorn. Good on you for sticking with it and actually getting some use out of it now, that's a solid win for getting around without a car. Nothing beats not having to worry about your ride getting trashed or swiped every single day.

Two months of calling about my own broken lock and they finally fixed it last week, so I feel this on a deep level. It's like they wait to see if you'll just give up and go away, which is honestly exhausting when you're trying to do the right thing. Good for you for hanging in there, seriously, because most people would have thrown in the towel months ago.

Why would you want it fixed? I used to chain mine to a railing. Got stolen anyway. Locks just slow down thieves, @sethhernandez. You're still rolling dice every night.
