Bought a $320 magnetic sweeper, lost it on the first roof job

Saw one of those magnetic chimney sweep setups online and figured it would save me time fishing out nails and junk from fireboxes. Paid $320 for the full kit, got it in the mail, and drove straight to a job over in Trenton. First roof, I set it down to grab my brush, turned around for two seconds, and the thing slid right off the slope. Never even got to use it. Still bugs me because I could have just used a shop vac and a magnet on a stick for like 40 bucks. Has anyone else bought fancy gear that just vanished before it paid for itself?
