My cheap pressure gauge failed on a 90 gallon tank last Wednesday

I was balancing the air on a customer's compressor and the gauge read 80 psi when the relief valve blew at 120. Has anyone else had those little liquid filled gauges just stop working after a year?

Smacking it worked for me once too.

Did you smack it with a wrench after it acted up? Tbh I dropped mine on the concrete floor and swore it was done, but somehow it started reading right again. Ngl those cheap gauges are a gamble, I've had one show 50 psi when the tank was empty, and another that would just spin in circles like a drunk compass. Honestly for a 90 gallon tank I'd spend the extra ten bucks on a solid brass one, they last way longer than the liquid filled junk. How many psi was the relief valve rated for anyway? Makes me wonder if the gauge was always off or just decided to quit at the worst time.

Right there with you @veraj53, I've had cheap gauges lie to me more times than I can count.
