Ran into a former coworker at a coffee shop in Portland last Tuesday

I was grabbing a morning coffee near my old office and saw this guy I used to work with at a startup back in 2018. We got to talking and he mentioned his company was hiring for a role that perfectly matched my skills. Has anyone else randomly run into someone who ended up helping their career?

Funny how the universe works sometimes. You can plan and search and apply to a hundred jobs online, but the real connections happen when you're just going about your day. It makes me think we get so caught up in digital networking that we forget how powerful just being out in the world can be. A random coffee run turned into a job lead that could change someone's whole path. There's something to be said for getting away from the screen and letting life happen organically.

So did that coffee run lead come from them recognizing you as a regular at the place, or did you just happen to overhear someone on their phone about an opening? I'm curious because those details matter. Like were you wearing a shirt from your field or carrying something that sparked the convo, or was it pure random luck? It seems like the difference between "being out in the world" and just stumbling into something.
