Vent: My $12.99 Harbor Freight toe kick saw smoked a $2,400 stair runner job last Tuesday
Last Tuesday in Boulder I was finishing a 14-step stair runner on a big job and my toe kick saw started smoking hard. The blade bit into the pad and tore a 6 inch rip right across step 9. Client walked in at that exact moment. I had to pull the whole run and eat $180 in material plus 3 hours of unpaid redo time. The dust port was clogged from a previous job and I never checked it. Now I blow out that port with my air hose after every single stair job. Anyone else have a cheap tool blow up a big ticket install?
I saw a thread on the JLC forum last year where a guy's $15 angle grinder from a pawn shop blew a $3,000 tile shower. Sounds like the clogged dust port is the real killer on those cheap saws, they just don't move enough air to start with.
