Rant: I asked for a raise with a 12 page slide deck and got a shrug
I put together a 12 page slide deck for my yearly review last month, full of charts showing how I saved the team about 6 hours a week. My boss flipped through it in maybe 90 seconds, said cool, and then we moved on to what we wanted for lunch. Two weeks later a coworker who just asked plainly in a hallway chat got bumped up 8 percent. When I asked her what she did, she said she walked in, said she was underpaid based on her numbers, and stayed quiet until he answered. I learned that all my prep was really just me avoiding the awkward part. Has anyone had luck flipping from slide decks to just saying the number out loud?
Wait, she just stood there in silence until he answered?? That is wild and also kind of genius. Twelve pages of charts getting skimmed in 90 seconds while a hallway chat gets her 8 percent is painful to read though.
