Found out my storage unit insurance only covers theft, not my neighbor's leak, and I'm out $450
So I've been storing my 1998 Civic in a unit outside of Sacramento for about 8 months now and I thought I had everything squared away. Last week I went to check on it and found water stains on the roof liner and some rust starting right where the trunk meets the rear window. Turned out the unit next to me had a busted water heater and nobody caught it for a few days. I called my insurance guy thinking it was covered and he told me the plan I picked only covers theft and fire, water damage from a neighboring unit is on me. That little detail was buried on page 3 of the paperwork I skimmed when I signed up and I never asked. Repair quote came back at $450 and now I'm wondering if I should just move the car somewhere with better walls. Anybody else get burned by fine print in their storage policy, or am I the only one who didn't read the whole thing?
