Update: My sleeping bag went from a frozen block to actually warm after I started using a liner.

I spent a miserable night in the Adirondacks last fall shivering in my 20-degree bag, but adding a simple fleece liner this past weekend in similar temps made it feel like a whole new piece of gear, so what other cheap upgrades have made a huge difference for you?

Honestly, liners are a total band-aid fix. That money is better spent on a proper sleeping bag rated for the real temps you face. A liner just adds bulk and traps moisture, making you damp and cold by morning. Plenty of folks have tried them only to find they compress the bag's loft, killing its real warmth. It's smarter to save up for gear that actually matches the conditions instead of trying to patch a weak link.

Totally get that logic, but man, my old sleeping bag is held together with duct tape and hope. A liner feels like the cheap lie I tell myself before freezing my butt off anyway lol. It's the camping version of putting a band-aid on a broken leg.

It's like fixing a squeaky floor by turning up the TV.
