My fire-cooked meal streak just hit a year, and folks think I'm crazy.

I stopped packing a camp stove twelve months ago to try something different. In my experience, cooking everything over the fire has been a real win for me, even though most guides say you need one. What's a piece of gear you happily do without?

Cooking over fire for a year is impressive! It makes me rethink what gear I really need. I've given up carrying a separate camp chair for ages, just using a log or my backpack. It started when I wanted to lighten my load on longer hikes. Now I find sitting closer to the ground more comfortable anyway. Going minimalist with gear really changes the trip for the better!

Hear you loud and clear, @cameronjenkins! Going light makes every trip better. I gave up my chair years ago and never looked back. Sitting close to the ground just feels right when you're outside. It saves so much weight and hassle. Plus, cooking over fire adds a whole new layer of fun to camping. Once you try it, you'll wonder why you ever carried so much gear!

It's amazing how letting go of stuff makes you notice more around you. The trip becomes about the place, not the things you brought.
