I thought ultrasonic cleaning was overkill until a Rolleiflex proved me wrong
Back in February a customer brought in a Rolleiflex 3.5F from a garage sale in Sacramento with a shutter that stuck at slow speeds. I figured I could just flush it with lighter fluid like I always do, but my boss said to try the ultrasonic cleaner we got for $180. I ran it at 40kHz for 6 minutes with plain distilled water and a drop of dish soap, and that shutter came back perfect on every speed. Now I use it on every leaf shutter that comes through the door, no more guessing. Has anyone else switched over, or do you still think it is too harsh for old brass gears?
