Discovered a hack for old leatherette glue residue
Last month I was restoring a Petri 7s and the leatherette came off but left this horrible sticky gunk underneath. Tried a few things before I figured out that lighter fluid on a q-tip dissolves it clean without damaging the metal underneath. Anyone got a better method for those really stubborn spots?

Oh gosh, I feel your pain. My first attempt looked like a sticky crime scene.

Jumped in to say that lighter fluid works great but folks are sleeping on heat. I use a hairdryer on low to warm the old glue just enough, then scrape it with a plastic spudger. @norab21 your crime scene comment made me laugh because same here. The heat trick works better for the stubborn spots because the glue gets soft instead of just dissolving on the surface. Just be careful not to warp the metal or melt anything plastic nearby. It's saved me a ton of q-tips and lighter fluid over the years.
