Heads up about those new 'fast-set' cabinet glues versus the old reliable stuff

I just finished a built-in for a client in Bellingham, and after testing both, the traditional hide glue gave me a perfect, lasting bond on the maple dovetails while the fast-set failed after a single seasonal change, so what's your go-to adhesive for solid wood joinery?

Why do they even make that fast stuff, right?

Totally get what you mean about "that fast stuff"! It feels like everything is built to be quick and disposable now, @emmag22. I see it with clothes, gadgets, even food. They make it cheap and fast so you have to buy it again when it breaks in a week. It's a whole cycle that just creates more waste and costs us more money in the long run. Really makes you miss when things were just made to last.

Old school hide glue every time. That fast stuff just doesn't hold up.
