The SSDI reconsideration stage took 14 months for my client

I had a client in Fresno who filed for SSDI back in early 2023. His initial claim got denied in about 4 months, which is pretty standard. But the reconsideration step, that's where things went sideways. It took 14 months before we got a decision, and that was after three status requests and one call to our assembly person's office. The funny thing is the denial letter had the wrong date on it, so we had to fight about the appeal deadline too. Has anyone else seen reconsideration drag out like that lately, or did they just single us out for bad luck?

That 14 month wait for reconsideration sounds about right for how broken things are right now. Actually, that's the same pattern I see EVERYWHERE these days, not just in disability claims. You call your internet company about a billing mistake, and they put you on hold for an hour. You try to get a doctors appointment, and they tell you it's a six week wait. Everything just takes FOREVER now. Nobody wants to just make a decision anymore, they'd rather pass you around and make you prove your case over and over. And the wrong date on the denial letter, man, that's the cherry on top. It's like the whole system is designed to wear you down until you just give up.
