My $3.50 pen exploded inside my journal last Tuesday and I almost lost it

I was using one of those cheap Bic pens I picked up at the pharmacy. Midway through my weekly layout, the ink cartridge just let go. Blue ink everywhere on my April spread. I had to sit there and watch it soak in for a solid minute before I even moved. Ended up cutting the page out, taping a new one over it, and redoing the whole week. Anyone else ever have a pen blow up in the middle of something important?

Holy crap that's brutal. A pen exploding in a journal is like a tiny ink murder scene you have to just stare at. I've had it happen with a fancy fountain pen once and it looked like a tiny octopus died on my to-do list. Honestly at that point you're not just losing ink, you're losing your whole vibe for the week. Props to you for actually taping a new page in I probably would've just closed the book and pretended it never happened for a few months.

Taping in a new page just makes the whole thing feel fake now, like you're trying to cover up a crime scene instead of owning it. @jordan903, you're right that it's a vibe killer, but that stain is part of the story now. Flipping to a clean page and pretending the explosion didn't happen is weak. That octopus murder scene is your journal's battle scar. Why waste time taping when you can just write around the mess and call it character building?

@sam_thomas is basically saying my journal needs a therapist now for that trauma.
