My brother in law said he keeps a $47 buffer in checking and I almost fell off my chair
We were sitting on his porch in Mesa on Saturday and he mentioned he never lets his checking account go under $47, which sounded like the strangest number I ever heard. When I asked why not just round it to $50, he said the odd amount keeps him from treating it like a real balance he can spend down. I started doing it myself a month ago and I have not touched that chunk once, mostly because the weird number bugs me too much to mess with it. Even my wife laughed at the idea until she saw we quit dipping into savings for small stuff. Does anyone else use a random number like that, or am I the only one copying my brother in law now?
