I thought the cash envelope system was just a weird trend, but it actually works for me

I saw people talking about it online a few years ago and thought it was silly to use real cash. I finally tried it last month for my grocery and fun money, putting $200 in each envelope. It's so different seeing the money leave your hand instead of just swiping a card. I ended up spending $30 less on groceries without even trying. Has anyone else had a simple trick like this really click for them?

Shows how physical limits beat digital ones every time.

Tell that to the guy who lost his life savings because a hard drive crashed. Digital limits are just different, not weaker. Try recovering a burned photo album versus pulling files from a cloud backup. Digital tools let us fix mistakes and share things in ways physical stuff just can't.

My buddy swore by his budgeting app for years. Then his phone got stolen and he lost all his custom spending categories and history. He said starting over felt impossible, so he just gave up. He switched to cash envelopes for his "going out" money last summer and hasn't blown his budget since. Sometimes you just need that physical block to stop you.
