Can we talk about the free flu shot clinic at the Kroger on 5th that saved me $180?
I walked past a sign for a free flu shot clinic at the Kroger on 5th Street about 6 weeks ago and figured why not. I usually pay around $180 out of pocket for two shots at my regular doctor because my insurance barely covers it. Turned out the clinic was run by the county health department and cost me nothing, not even a copay. I sat there for maybe 15 minutes and walked out with both shots done. That one stop saved me almost two hundred bucks that went straight into my car repair fund. Has anyone else found free clinics like this hiding in plain sight at grocery stores or pharmacies?
Sprinted right past that same sign probably five times before I actually read it. I just figured free meant "free with insurance" or some bait and switch thing where they hit you with a $50 admin fee at the end. Then my wife dragged me in and we both got the shot, no card, no nothing. Meanwhile my buddy paid $95 at a Walgreens last year and spent more time filling out paperwork than actually getting poked. Lesson learned, check the county health site next time instead of being a genius about it.
