My $6 lentil soup looked like a biology experiment after day 5
I made this huge batch of lentil soup last Monday thinking I'd save cash for the whole week. By Friday it had turned this weird shade of green and started bubbling through the lid. Turns out I left it on the counter instead of the fridge after dinner Tuesday. Anyone else accidentally ferment their budget meals into something science class?

Did you at least get a free science lesson out of it?

Five days on the counter is a bold move, I once found my chili growing fuzzy white stuff after just three days of forgetting about it. At least you know for next time to stick it straight in the fridge after dinner.

Read a food safety article the other day that said cooked food left out more than two hours is basically a science experiment for bacteria. Five days is definitely pushing it, you got lucky or your apartment is a cold zone. I remember reading that chili especially can be tricky because of the meat and beans. That fuzzy white stuff you saw sounds like mold from trapped moisture. Better safe than sorry, sticking it in the fridge right after you eat is the way to go.
