Chopped kale or frozen spinach for soup

I had a choice at the store last week between a $3 bunch of fresh kale and a $1 bag of frozen spinach for my lentil soup. I grabbed the kale because I figured fresh is always better. It took me 15 minutes just to wash and chop all those tough stems. Next time I'm going with the frozen spinach, it's cheaper and way less work. Anyone else find that frozen veggies save you time and money?

My aunt swears by frozen spinach for everything and I really gotta disagree on this one. Fresh kale brings a totally different texture to soup, that earthy chewiness that frozen spinach just can't match. Plus I find that frozen spinach turns into this sad, watery mush if you're not careful with it. I get that chopping kale is annoying but I'll take the extra 15 minutes over a bag of soggy greens any day.
