Saw my grocery receipt and had a moment
Was checking out at Aldi last Tuesday. My total was $87 for what looked like a full cart. Looked closer and half of it was snacks and drinks. Not real food. Add up the granola bars, soda, chips and it's like $40. Could buy a lot of chicken and rice for that. Anyone else realize their "budget" shopping is mostly junk?

My Aldi trip last Tuesday cost $82 and I realized three bags of frozen fries were $12 of it.

My 15 year old daughter called me out on this exact thing last month. I used to defend myself saying I was getting deals on snacks and it was part of the budget. But she pointed out that I'd buy a bag of tortilla chips for $3 and then a jar of salsa for $4 when a whole bag of potatoes costs like $5 and feeds us for a week. That really shook me. Now I look at my cart different. I try to ask myself if those snacks are really feeding anyone or just filling up space in the cart. It's been a slow change but I check my receipt before I even leave the parking lot now.

Man your daughters got a point I never thought about it that way. I used to just grab whatever looked good without thinking if it was actually worth it. Kinda opened my eyes reading this.
