Got burned by a used car at a lot on 3rd Street
Went to check out a 2012 Honda Civic at a dealership on 3rd Street last Saturday. They quoted me $8,500 but after I ran a Carfax I found it had flood damage from a hurricane in 2017. The salesman kept pushing a warranty for $1,200 extra too. Walked away and now I'm only looking at private sellers with full service records. Anyone else had a dealer hide big stuff on a car report?

Probably should've checked that Carfax before you even walked onto the lot, honestly. Those flood damaged cars are time bombs waiting to rust out your electronics and mold up the interior. A lot of times those warranties they push hard are just covering basic stuff while the real problems like bad wiring or a dying transmission won't get touched. Private sellers can be sketchy too though if you don't see a thick folder of oil change receipts and inspection records. I've had way better luck buying from older folks who babied their cars and kept every single piece of paper on it.

Buddy of mine bought a "certified" one and the AC died three weeks later.

Honestly, I'm surprised nobody's talking about the "certified" part being the real problem here. Sometimes those certified pre-owned programs just check the easy stuff like tires and wipers, not the AC compressor or the blend door actuators. Tbh, that could take a shop hours to diagnose and it's not something a quick inspection catches. Ngl, your buddy might have bought a car that was "certified" to start, not to keep running.
