Trad mortar vs pre-mix, here's my 28 day test results

Tbh I ran a side by side on a garden wall in Portland last month, 80 bags of pre-mix against my usual lime and cement blend. The pre-mix came out cleaner and saved me about 4 hours, but at day 28 the traditional mix tested 12% harder. Am I just being stubborn about old methods, or does anyone else see a real strength gap pushing them back to mixing on site?
