Pro tip: wet your bricks before laying on hot days
Last week in Phoenix it hit 108 and my mortar was drying way too fast. A old mason told me to dunk each brick in a bucket of water first. Tried it and the mortar stayed workable for twice as long. Anyone else do this or got other tricks for heat?

Make sure you shade your mortar board too.

Dunking the bricks is a game changer on scorching days, but don't stop there. Throw a wet burlap sack over your stack of wet bricks to keep them cool between lays. Also mist your tools and the ground around your work area to knock down the temp a bit.
