Building a brick border for my flower beds was tougher than I thought
I decided to add a brick edge to my garden last weekend. I thought it would be a simple job, but I ran into a few problems. First, the ground wasn't level, so I had to dig out and tamp down a base of sand. Mixing the mortar was tricky, too dry and it crumbles, too wet and it slides off the trowel. I found that a mix like thick peanut butter works best. Laying the bricks in a straight line took patience, but using a string guide helped a lot. Now that it's done, the beds look neat and the bricks keep the soil in place. It was a good learning experience for small outdoor projects.

How did you get the mortar mix right? I tried once and now my jeans have a mortar stain that won't come out.

Mix like peanut butter thick, rinse stains fast with water before drying!
