Serious question, does anyone else think moss is a better houseplant than ferns?
Everyone in my local plant group in Portland keeps pushing ferns for low light corners, but I went the other way last fall. I picked a $6 tray of cushion moss over a $22 Boston fern because my bathroom has no window and the light is just that weak ceiling bulb. Six months later the moss is still green and growing along the shower ledge, while the fern my roommate bought shriveled up by week 5 even with misting. Ferns want humidity and steady light, and most bathrooms just can't give them that no matter what the internet says. The moss doesn't care about my forgetful watering schedule at all, it just sits there looking like a tiny forest. So am I missing something, or is ferns-for-bathrooms just bad advice that keeps getting passed around?
