Had to pick between two potting soils at the garden center yesterday
I was at Lowe's in Austin last Saturday staring at two bags - one was a cheap $5 brand and the other was FoxFarm for $18. I went with the expensive one cause I read online it had better drainage for succulents. Turns out my jade plant stopped looking droopy after just 1 week. Has anyone else noticed a big difference with pricier soil mixes?

Whoa, $18 for a bag of dirt?! That's wild, I swear I bought a big bag of the cheap stuff for my tomatoes last spring and it was like gravel and wood chips mixed together. My plants hated it, they all turned yellow and sad looking. I'm real curious if that FoxFarm stuff is actually worth the price or if it's just fancy packaging.

I hear you on the cheap stuff being garbage, @paul286, but FoxFarm is a whole different animal. It's got actual nutrients mixed in so you don't have to feed your plants for a while, and it's fluffy with perlite and stuff so roots can breathe.

Is it really that big a deal for some potting soil?
