Finally figured out why my fireworks shots from July 4th looked like glowing blobs
I took about 60 pictures of fireworks at the park down the street from my apartment in Boise and every single one came out as a shaky smear of light. Turns out I was holding my phone with both hands and squeezing the shutter button, which pushed the whole phone down right as the shot fired. Would using a cheap mini tripod with a remote shutter actually fix this, or should I just switch to video mode and pull stills from that?
Boise fireworks are loud enough that the shake from the sound alone can mess up a handheld shot, so a tripod might not save you. Pulling stills from video gives you 4K frames at like 8 megapixels each, which is plenty for sharing and way less fuss than hauling gear to the park. Just brace your elbows on something solid and let the video roll instead.
