Pro tip: try a piece of leather under your hardy tool

I was cutting some 1/4 inch stock on the hardy yesterday and the hammer blows were just brutal on my arm. I threw an old scrap of belt leather under the tool as a pad, just to try it. It cut the shock in half, no joke, and the cut was cleaner too. Has anyone else tried this or do you have a better trick for the anvil ring?

Totally stole that trick from a farrier friend.

Oh man, that's a SOLID tip. My buddy was having the same issue with his arm getting beat up. He actually tried a scrap of old rubber horse stall mat under his cut-off hardy. Said it was a total game changer, way less shock and the anvil was almost quiet. He won't work without it now. I guess anything that soaks up the vibration really helps.

Actually the rubber goes under the anvil itself, not the hardy tool. Makes a huge difference.
