I swore I'd never watch a reality competition show, but a friend finally convinced me.

For years I told myself I was above shows like The Great British Bake Off. I thought they were all fake drama and manufactured tension. Then my neighbor Mary kept talking about how relaxing it was to watch people bake under pressure. She told me it was more like a cozy documentary than a typical reality show. I finally gave in and watched the first season last month. Turns out she was right. The whole thing took me about 4 hours to get through the first 4 episodes because I kept rewinding to see the technical challenges. Now I have to stop myself from binging an entire season in one weekend. Has anyone else been surprised by a show they thought they would hate?

@gibson.sarah calling it dangerously addictive is a reach though. You can just turn the TV off if it's really that big of a problem for you. Maybe the real issue is some people have zero self control and need to blame the show instead of themselves.

Bake Off is dangerously addictive lol. Now I'm trying to ration episodes like a drug.

Ration episodes like a drug" - that's such a perfect way to describe it lol. But you know, Bake Off isn't really dangerous addictive, it's gentle addictive. Like you won't stay up all night having a breakdown over it, you'll just sneak one more bake and then another cause Paul Hollywood gave someone a handshake. I tried rationing too and it lasted about 3 days before I binged the whole season in one weekend. The trick is to just accept the addiction and watch it guilt free, it's not like it's gonna ruin your life or anything.
