That kid's fixie comment about my 3x crank setup hit different

I was rebuilding an old touring bike on the bench Saturday and a teenager waiting for a tune-up said 'why do you need three gears up front, that's just more cable to fight.' I laughed it off, but then I spent 20 minutes chasing a ghost shift on the front derailleur and honestly thought he might have a point. Anyone else get roasted by a customer's offhand remark and then secretly questioned their whole drivetrain philosophy?
