Tried grocery shopping once a month to save time and ended up throwing away $60 worth of spoiled produce

I kept seeing people online brag about how they only shop once every 3-4 weeks and it saves them so much time and money. So I tried it for February. Big mistake. By week two, my lettuce was slime, my berries had mold, and I had to buy a whole second round of fresh stuff anyway. On top of that, I forgot I had chicken in the back of the fridge and it went bad. I get that meal planning works for some people but for me, I lost $60 and wasted 2 hours trying to reorganize my fridge. Anyone else tried this and had the opposite experience?

Ngl I used to be one of those people who thought monthly shopping was the ultimate life hack. I remember telling my friend it was all about discipline and picking the right stuff. Then I tried it myself and ended up tossing a whole bag of spinach that turned into a brown sludge by day 10. The squash and potatoes were fine but everything else was a nightmare. I get it now, it's not for everyone and definitely not for me.

Did you check the expiration dates before buying? I've done monthly shopping for years and you kind of have to pick sturdier produce like apples or squash.

Honestly, that "sturdier produce" part got me. Last time I tried monthly shopping I grabbed a bunch of bananas thinking they'd last, but by week two they were basically a science experiment in the fruit bowl. Meanwhile the squash I bought was still good like a month later. Pretty sure that thing is immortal.
