Just realized I've been loading the dishwasher wrong for 15 years after watching a 60 year old woman at a community dinner in Cleveland

She showed me how nesting bowls traps all the spray and I've probably been eating off half-clean plates since 2009, has anyone else had a basic chore moment that flipped your whole routine?

Wait, if @rubys80 is right about the top rack blocking the spray arm, doesn't that mean half my top rack dishes have been getting a subpar wash for years too? Now I'm wondering if I've just been running a really expensive hot water rinse this whole time.

The same thing happened to me with my KitchenAid a few years back. I started noticing my coffee mugs on the top rack always came out with that weird residue on the inside bottom. Turns out I was cramming too many bowls and salad plates up there that were literally resting on top of the spray arm nub. Now I keep the top rack loaded with just mugs and small glasses, and I make sure nothing is touching that center area. You can actually test it by running an empty cycle with a solo cup right over the spray arm - if it doesn't flip over, something is blocking it.

Just a small thing - that 60 year old woman was probably right but nesting bowls isn't really the main issue, most of the time it's overloading the top rack that blocks the spray arm.
