Hot take: I tracked every minute of my 38 minute bus ride for a month, and the surprise wasn't the time
I ride the 7:15 bus from my place in Portland to work, and for 30 days straight I wrote down what I actually did with those 38 minutes. The plan was to prove I needed the quiet time to wake up, but the notes showed I mostly stared at my phone and scrolled through stuff I can't even remember now. What I did enjoy was the 6 minutes I spent looking out the window past the bridge, watching the river and the same guy walking his two dogs. So I started leaving the phone in my bag until we crossed the bridge, and those 6 minutes turned into 20 minutes of just thinking. Weird part is I get to my desk feeling more ready than when I chugged coffee on the ride. Anybody else tried cutting one small thing out of a daily routine and had it change the rest of the morning?
Waited, you tracked every single minute for 30 days? That is some serious dedication for a bus ride. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday, let alone log 38 minutes times 30 days of phone staring. The part that gets me is you actually enjoyed watching some random guy walk his dogs every morning, that's such a small weird thing to look forward to but it totally makes sense.
