Why does nobody talk about pricing thrift store furniture for resale?

I was talking to a guy named Mark at the Habitat ReStore in Denver last weekend, and he said he lists his finds on Facebook Marketplace for 3 times what he paid because people want the "thrifted look" without the work. But I’ve always priced mine low to sell fast and help someone out. Which side do you lean towards when you’re flipping stuff from a garage sale?

Man I had a similar thing happen with a solid oak dresser I found at a yard sale for $20. I listed it for $35 and a lady messaged me saying she'd give me $30 but only if I delivered it to her third floor walkup. Took me an hour and I basically broke even. Sometimes I wonder if Mark's onto something with that triple price thing just to weed out the tire kickers.

Ha, that's a real moral quandary right there. I'm over here pricing my old lamp at $5 because it's got a weird smell and a chip, while Mark's out there acting like a thrift store prophet. I get the hustle, but tripling the price feels like you're just charging for your "curated eye." I usually stick somewhere in the middle, like 50% more than what I paid, just enough to cover my gas and a coffee.

50% more isn't covering gas unless you're walking there.
