My sourdough starter turned pink after 9 days and I panicked
I started a new starter on June 3rd using bread flour and filtered water, feeding it every 12 hours like the King Arthur guide says. By day 9 it had doubled nicely and smelled like yogurt, but when I pulled the lid off that morning there was a pink streak running down the side of the jar. I googled for about 20 seconds, saw the word bacteria, and dumped the whole thing in the trash before I even finished reading. Now I'm wondering if I overreacted since it might have just been the lid condensation doing something weird. Has anyone brought back a starter from a pink spot, or is the trash the right call every time?
