The roommate who 'cleaned' my pans with steel wool still haunts me
Came home to find my nonstick skillet scratched to hell because my old roommate thought steel wool was the universal scrubber, and he said 'it needed a real cleaning' when I asked about it. Anyone else have a kitchen tool get destroyed by someone who refuses to ask first?
My roommate did the same thing to my cast iron once... stripped all the seasoning off because he thought rust meant it was dirty. Thing is, people see a worn pan and think it needs scrubbing, but they never stop to wonder why it got that way in the first place. That whole situation taught me that some folks just treat every object like it's disposable, and they don't realize the stuff you keep actually needs specific care. It's like the difference between borrowing a book and dog-earing every page vs. just asking how you should treat it.
