I finally hit 200 pounds of zucchini from one 4x8 bed this summer and it made me rethink everything I thought I knew about spacing.

People always say to give them room but I packed 6 plants in there and just kept watering heavy and ended up with way more than the neighbors who followed the seed packet advice, anyone else get better yields by ignoring the spacing rules?

Ditched the spacing rules on my tomatoes this year and got triple the harvest. Squished them close together like my grandma used to do. Feels like these plants actually like competing for water and nutrients.

Gotta admit, I was all about that perfect spacing for years but this is making me rethink everything. Might have to try squishing mine next season.

Oh come ON, triple the harvest? That sounds like one of those stories that gets bigger every time you tell it. I've had tomatoes practically touching each other and they just got all leggy and fought for sunlight, ended up with a bunch of tiny fruit. Maybe your grandma had some magic soil or something, but I'm betting you just got lucky with weather this year. Did you actually count the pounds or are we just eyeballing it?
