I finally figured out why my tomatoes were splitting every single time

The skins kept cracking right as they turned red, ruining a dozen or so this month. My neighbor Pam told me it was the irregular watering, not the heat. I started putting a 2 inch layer of straw mulch around the base and set up a drip line on a timer, 6am and 7pm, gave each plant about a gallon. Two weeks later, not one split tomato. The difference is kinda wild, the soil stays moist instead of drying out and then getting flooded. Has anyone else had this fix work for them or do you do something different?
