Bought a $40 soil test kit that was just a pH strip and a chart

I got this kit off Amazon thinking it would tell me nitrogen and phosphorus levels but it was basically a fancy pH strip. Anybody else get burned by those cheap kits?

My $35 one from last year came with a little plastic tray that said "professional grade" on the box but it was just a pH strip and a single tiny vial. I followed the directions exactly for testing nitrogen and the color came out looking exactly like the "low" and "medium" samples at the same time so it was totally useless. @john650 is spot on about the swimming pool comparison because I literally had better results with a $10 pool test kit from Walmart that actually gave me separate readings for chlorine and pH. That whole experience taught me to just mail samples to my state ag extension office for $15 now because at least I get actual numbers back instead of guessing.

$40 seems steep for what's basically a swimming pool test strip with a fancy label.
